Quiet [Snow] Storm, Vol. 3

November 30, 2012

It’s my favorite time of the year.  The holiday season brings, above all else, great music.  I’ve got an  embarrassing amount of holiday music in iTunes that I’ve been collecting since I was a kid.  I’ve been sharing a holiday mix every year for a number of years now within my circle & now on my blog.  I call them “Quiet [Snow] Storm” because I have a love of Christmas classics by R&B singers.  🙂  Enjoy this year’s!

A ‘sexy’ summer anthem…

May 28, 2012

I love a good American Idol success story.  Check out this new video/song from former AI-contestant Leah LaBelle.  It’s a nice little summer jam called “Sexify“.  Don’t be fooled by the title, the song is a spritely kinda ditty that kind of reminds me of uptempo Goapele.  It’s fun and flirty.

A Hot, Heavy Sunday.

April 24, 2011

A few months ago, I blogged about my love of the genre bending ATL goddess Joi while also announcing the debut of her new musical duo, Hot Heavy & Bad, and their latest video “One”. Well I woke up this morning to see a tweet from the singer letting fans know that the mixtape “Undercover” has been released today for free download.

I’m taking some of Sunday to spin the mixtape and support good music. I suggest you do the same.  Did I mention that it is free?

You can get the mixtape at Hot Heavy & Bad’s site: http://www.joilicious-online.org/heavy

Prototype 3010 [A Short Film]

March 19, 2011

One of my favorite male vocalists (who I wrote about some months ago), Jesse Boykins III, has dropped a visual component to his take on Andre 3000’s love anthem “Prototype” from 2004.  Already a stirring track from the ATLien, Boykins really shows musically how one can respect the integrity of an original piece, reinterpret it & emit a unique beauty that both pays homage to its creator and establishes one’s own artistic capability, without the crutch of a cover.  Bottom line is kids, it’s dope.

Check out the impressive short film that accompanies the track below.

Riding on the metro…

February 3, 2011

It’s absolutely amazing when a song that ‘s 20+ years old can sound like it came out last week.  That’s what Berlin‘s “The Metro” is.  The synth pop ditty came out originally in 1983 amidst the New Wave phenomenon.  With the resurgence of synthesized pop, the song has some how found itself in a selective sect of songs that literally sound like they were recorded yesterday.  Listen & tell me I’m wrong.
